Tip 12: Write your teachers a thank you note

Whether you’re a parent, administrator, or a teacher yourself, you know that teachers are tackling A LOT right now…

  • Learning new online systems

  • Adjusting their curriculum

  • Figuring out what will and won’t work in a remote environment

  • Making sure they support every student

  • Hosting virtual classes, one-on-ones, office hours, etc.

  • Keeping track of which students are engaged

  • Trying to follow rapidly-changing school & district protocols

All of this, they are doing at an incredibly quick pace, as they navigate the unknown.

So let’s take a moment to give our teachers a hand. 👏

And how about we thank them personally too? If you’re an administrator, you could write a thank you note yourself and encourage your students or parents to do the same!

So, go ahead. Pick a teacher. Write a note. Be it a postcard, a message through your school’s communication portal, an email, or something else (comment any other ideas below — we’d love to hear them)! Parents can ask their kids or write one themselves!

Below are some sample thank you notes, in light of school closures and remote learning. You’ll find dozens more examples on our teacher appreciation week blog post

From an administrator:

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your hard work. Your dedication to your students and efforts are especially evident in these times. It’s so important to support our students right now and you are going above and beyond. I know it’s been quite the adjustment, and that we can only do so much, but you are truly giving your best and it’s very appreciated! So, a big thank you, and please do take some time to take care of yourself too.

From a parent:

THANK YOU so much for all you are doing to support my kid. Marco misses you a lot, but he loves seeing you on Zoom and your weekly video read-alouds. Your positive attitude and tactful handling of this crazy situation has had a great impact on him and kept him in high spirits. We appreciate you a lot!

From a student:

Do we even need an example? Kids always say the darndest things 😉 Encourage your child to write from the heart (you, too).

Want more samples messages? You’ll find dozens here in our teacher appreciation week post.

And lastly, thank YOU. If you’ve made it this far, it means you probably want to thank those around you and help spread positivity in these trying times — keep on keeping on!
